6 REASONS WHY YOUR HAIRPIECE IS SHEDDING

AND HOW TO AVOID IT

before

Some hair loss is normal for both men and women. We average about 150,000 to 200,000 hairs. About 90 percent of your scalp hair is in the anagen stage (growing cycle) that lasts about 2 and 6 years. The remaining 10 percent of scalp hair is in the catagen stage (intermediate cycle) for 1 to 2 weeks before entering the telogen stage (resting cycle) for 5 to 6 weeks. We lose about 100 to 125 hairs a day is normal. Hair must be replaced at the same rate as its loss to maintain existing hair density.

Here are some answers to your questions about different types of hair loss and early warnings signs.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF HAIR LOSS

before

1. MALE PATTERN BALDNESS

Male Pattern Baldness is the most common type of hair loss. It usually start with a receding hairline or thinning on the top of the head (the crown). It also appears as a loss of hair in a horseshoe pattern (called Hamilton Pattern Baldness). Male pattern baldness can begin from teen years.

2. ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA

Men can suffer spot hair loss to total baldness. Women suffer thinning over the top or sides of the scalp. It's caused by inherited hormonal fluctuations that result in DHT toxicity. Most baldness is associated with androgenetic alopecia.

3. ANDROGENIC ALOPECIA

Male and female pattern baldness associated with pseudo-estrogens and inherited hormonal imbalances in the body. The appearance of androgentic and androgenic alopecia are the same, but the cause is different. Androgenic alopecia is not inherited and can run spot hair loss to total hair loss.

4. MITOGENIC ALOPECIA

Male or female pattern baldness associated with a mite named Demodex Folliculorum. This type of hair loss caused by excessive production of sebum and inflammation, it can appear as diffused thinning or simply a receding hairline.

5. ALOPECIA AREATA

Alopecia Areata generally appears on the scalp, but may occur or spread to facial and body hair as well. It's believed to be an autoimmune disorder. What is known is that once you have it, you always have it.

Alopecia usually appears as a few small patches which are completely hairless. This condition may be temporary and may correct it self in a few months. This condition is caused by the hair follicle going dormant. However, it can in extreme cases progress to total scalp hair loss or total body hair loss.

6. ALOPECIA TOTALIS

An advance form of Alopecia Areata, it refers to the total loss of scalp hairs.

7. ALOPECIA UNIVERSALIS

An advanced form of alopecia areata, it refers to the total loss of scalp and body hair.

8. SCARRING ALOPECIA

An uncommon form of alopecia caused when the hair follicle becomes inflamed due from infection. It usually appears in a rough circular patches on the scalp. It's believed to be caused by variety if skin disorders.

TOP 6 REASONS FOR ABNORMAL HAIR LOSS AND MINIATURIZATION OF HAIR

before

1. GENETIC PREDISPOSITION

Over the past decade hair loss has been on the rise in both men and women. A genetic hormonal balances and imbalances, as well as the conversion of testosterone into Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), can be inherited from either your mother's or father's side of the family. Throughout our lives testosterone and estrogen levels in men and women go through dramatic changes. The hormonal fluctuations and the conversion to DHT can cause hair loss.

2. STRESS/TRAUMA

Increased levels of stress produces increased levels of testosterone, which converts to DHT and interrupts the hair growth cycle. Stress or trauma also constricts the blood supply to the capillaries, causing lack of oxygen.

3. NUTRITION & DIET

High intake of animal fats (such as fast foods), vitamin A or rapid weight loss reduces the amino acids and vitamins needed for hair growth. Deficiencies in biotin, iron, protein and zinc are particularly damaging to healthy hair growth.

4. HEALTH

Malfunctions of the hormone producing Thyroid gland, is one of the known health related causes of hair loss. Medication used to treat thyroid disease can also cause hair loss.

5. MEDICATIONS

The side effects of drugs can effect the growth oh hair and cause hair loss. Almost any hormonal therapy can potentially cause hair loss. Steroids, specific chemotherapies as well as many blood pressure, diabetic, and even acne medications can cause temporary or permanent hair loss.

6. ENVIRONMENT

Air pollutants, chlorine, metals, minerals and water pollution. Pollutants in the environment with toxins from our body can play a role in hair loss. The sun or any UV-A rays can unnaturally age the skin cells and cause hair loss.

FIVE EARLY WARNING SIGNS OF ABNORMAL HAIR LOSS

before

1. ACNE

Adult cystic acne or acne with cysts containing keratin and sebum. Inflammation of the sebaceous glands from retained secretion. Cystic acne is associated with DHT (dihydrotesterone , therefore the presence of this type of acne is a warning sign and indicates the same hormonal imbalance that often lead to premature hair loss.

2. SEBORRHEA

With Seborrhea, the sebaceous gland produces excess sebum, which builds-up on the scalp. When the sebaceous gland, being hormonally regulated, over-produces sebum, it's a warning sign and indicates the same hormonal that often lead to premature hair loss.

3. ALOPECIA AREATA

Alopecia Areata ia a systemic, non-hormonal cause of hair loss. Genetics, diet and stress trigger what's believed to be an automatic disease and the subsequent hair loss associated with it. Once you have Alopecia Areata, even though the bald spot may come and go, it's generally a chronic condition and a warning sign of more severe hair loss problems ahead. Proper care of the scalp can sometimes reduce the severity of the episodes and the length of time between them. But, there is no known permanent solution.

4. EXCESSIVE DAILY HAIR LOSS

Hair must be replaced at the same rate of loss in order to maintain current thickness and volume. When shampooing daily, the loss of 50 or more hairs per day can be a warning sign of potential hair loss problem.

5. EXCESSIVE BODY HAIR ON MEN

50% greater risk of baldness, if a man has complete chest hair.

70% greater risk of baldness, if a man has chest, shoulder and back hair.

90% greater risk of baldness, if a man has total body hair.

--- EXCESSIVE BODY HAIR OR SUDDEN APPEARANCE OF FACIAL OR BODY HAIR ON WOMEN

An imbalance in hormones is often the cause of excessive facial or body hair on women. It's am warning sign because the same hormonal imbalance can cause premature baldness.

6 REASONS WHY YOUR HAIRPIECE IS SHEDDING

AND HOW TO AVOID IT

before

#1 Water damage

A soaked base can be a major reason for hair shedding. That’s because the water — whether it’s from a shower or a swim — can cause swelling on the base, especially if it’s a skin base. This, in turn, makes the grip power of the hair looser and ultimately leads to shedding. Avoid touching your hair immediately after it gets wet and wait for it to be completely dry

#2 Oil damage

The oil produced naturally by your scalp as well as the slippery, oily coating from silicone-based shampoos and conditioners can also cause hair shedding. This oily film acts as a lubricant as while it makes your hair smoother, it also loosens the knots to the base and leads to hair fall. One way to combat this is to use non silicone-based shampoos and conditioners such as Naked. Additionally, spray-on leave-in conditioner prevents your roots from making contact with any silicone ingredient. You can also use a scalp protector to decrease the amount of oil you produce while deep cleaning your scalp can also take away the oils from your pores.

#3 Physical force

You may be causing the hair shedding yourself depending on how much force you are putting on your hairpiece. Things like scratching your head, how you’re sleeping (the material of your pillow rubbing against the hair), wearing a tight hat, tying or braiding your hair, forcing it to be combed or stretching the base can all weaken your hair and cause it to fall off. To counter this, notable best practices are to never wear a hat when you have a hairpiece on, invest in a silk pillowcase, never comb your hair after a shower when it’s still wet and to never — or try to reduce — how much you sleep with a full cap wig or long hair hairpiece as this can cause your hair to tangle and shed.

#4 Heat

Heat can also cause hair shedding. Factors such as where you live will play a role, but other factors such as blow drying your hair the wrong way, overdoing it or not protecting your hair before applying heat can either overdry your hair or cause it to be brittle. That’s because heat will break down the hydrogen bond which makes up a third of your hair’s strength. Instead, air dry if possible or use the cold setting on your blow dryer. You can also invest in heat-protection creams or sprays that are designed to protect your hair when you apply heat.

#5 Chemicals

Like hydrogen bonds, sulfur bonds also hold together the protein structures of your hair. And they can be affected by chemical agents like perms, bleach, relaxers and coloring among others. If you can avoid it, try not to use these chemical agents on your hair to prevent hair shedding. But if you absolutely require it, you will have to accept that you will experience hair fall.

#6 Light

UV (ultraviolet) light can also cause your hair to fall. If your hair has prolonged exposure to the sun, the UV rays can damage your hair whether by discoloration, thinning, frizziness or causing split ends or dry and brittle strands. So if you’re out and about for much of the day, try and avoid exposure to the sun as much as possible. Your lights at home can also contribute, however. Fluorescent lights usually emit a small amount of UV light and could potentially cause discoloration or damage to your hair. Instead, invest in UV-reducing or UV-free light alternatives.
